Counselling For Parents
Your family will go through many changes throughout the life cycle. Whatever problems your family is experiencing, there is help and support available. Counselling can help you overcome your difficulties.
Whether it is a new baby, younger children or teens, talking to a professional can help you explore what might be going on for you.
Helping family members to reflect on the different perspectives and consider how your family beliefs, values and expectations (no matter how subtle) impact the relationships, hopes, and assumptions we place on one another.
Systemic approaches can also prove highly useful when parenting becomes challenging.
I will help you develop the skills, build effective communication and confidence to address these difficulties.
My approach is a non-pathologising one, (non-medical and non-diagnostic).
I understand children’s behaviour, emotions and actions as a way of communicating that something is not right. This approach is ideal if you are ready to consider, and subsequently explore the family dynamics, intergenerational patterns of relating/trauma in your family history and how your own experience of childhood and being parented maybe impacting your ability to attune to your child.
When we contextualise children’s (and adults) behaviour, we open up opportunity to consider narratives outside of the medical model, we move from ‘there is something wrong with my child’, into, ‘what is my child responding to?’
If you would like to work with me please complete the contact form, I offer a no obligation conversation prior to arranging any appointments.
