Working together on 'Anxiousness'

You may have noticed I've used single quotes around 'anxiety' in my titles.

These courses consider much more than what we're typically told about anxiety in the medical sense. To really understand these experiences, we need to hold the term loosely.

Despite what we're taught, anxiety is ALWAYS a response to something. It's relational and contextual - arising in connection to our relationships, environments, and circumstances. Rather than viewing anxiety as something broken that needs fixing, or something solely located within us to survive or endure, we can see it as information, as our system responding to threats or important values at stake.

This work isn't about eliminating anxiety, but developing a different relationship with it, one that honours its protective wisdom and intergenerational patterns, whilst expanding our capacity to respond rather than react.

After 15 years in practice, I'm excited to share my integrated approach to understanding anxiety in an informal and friendly online setting. Rather than offering one comprehensive course, I've developed focused programmes that allow you to explore specific aspects of anxiousness that resonate most with your current experience.

Choose Your Focus

Each 4-week programme explores a particular aspect of anxiousness, allowing you to dive deeper into what matters most to you right now:

Social 'Anxiousness' and Fear of Judgement

Rather than seeing social anxiety as something wrong with you, this course explores how our fears of judgement make perfect sense given our relationships and social contexts. We'll examine why your system might be on high alert in social situations and what this protectiveness is trying to tell you. Together, we'll develop a different relationship with these feelings—one that honours their wisdom whilst expanding your capacity to show up authentically in social connections, without the exhausting need to manage others' opinions.

Worry Spirals and Rumination

Your mind's tendency to loop and spiral isn't a malfunction, it's your system trying to solve something or protect you from perceived threats. This course helps you understand what drives repetitive thinking patterns and why they persist. We'll explore the relational and contextual factors that fuel worry, examine any intergenerational patterns of overthinking, and develop practical ways to work with your mind's protective instincts whilst creating space for presence and peace.

'Anxiousness' and Anger

The connection between anxiety and irritability often surprises people, but it makes complete sense when we understand how our nervous systems respond to threat. This course explores how anxious feelings can show up as frustration, impatience, or anger, and why this protective response develops. We'll look at the relationships and contexts that trigger these responses, helping you develop awareness and choice in how you express these important emotions whilst maintaining the connections that matter to you.

Shame and Self-Criticism

That harsh inner voice isn't just negative thinking, it's often a protective strategy learnt early to help you belong and stay safe in relationships. This course gently explores how self-criticism develops, what it's trying to protect you from, and how it might be connected to family or cultural patterns. Together, we'll develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself, one that honours your need for growth whilst creating the internal safety that allows genuine change to unfold.

Fear of Uncertainty and Need for Control

The drive to control outcomes isn't weakness, it's your system's intelligent attempt to create safety in an unpredictable world. This course explores what fuels our need for certainty and how our relationships and life experiences shape these protective patterns. We'll examine what's truly within our influence, develop tolerance for life's inherent uncertainties, and create practices that help you feel grounded even when you can't control the outcome.

Boundaries and 'Anxiousness'

Difficulty with boundaries often stems from early relational experiences where saying "no" felt unsafe or threatened important connections. This course explores how boundary challenges create anxiety in your relationships and daily life, examining the family and cultural patterns that shape your approach to limits. We'll work together to develop skills for setting boundaries that feel authentic to you whilst maintaining the relationships you value, honouring both your needs and your connections with others.

Intergenerational 'Anxiousness' Patterns

The anxious patterns we carry often make perfect sense when we understand our family histories and the contexts our caregivers navigated. This course gently explores how worry, fear, and protective strategies pass through generations, not as pathology, but as adaptive responses to real circumstances. We'll examine which inherited patterns still serve you and which you might be ready to transform, creating space for new responses that honour your family's resilience whilst meeting your current life's needs.

'Anxiousness' in Parenting

Parenting anxiety isn't personal failure, it's the natural result of caring deeply about your children's wellbeing in an uncertain world. This course explores how your own experiences of being parented, current stressors, and the intense responsibility of raising children all contribute to anxious feelings. We'll examine how to support your children without transmitting unnecessary worry, whilst developing practices that help you stay grounded and present in the beautiful, challenging work of parenting.

Relationship 'Anxiousness'

Anxiety in relationships often signals important attachment needs and reflects early experiences of connection and safety. This course explores how your relational history shapes current patterns, examining what your anxious responses might be trying to protect or secure. Together, we'll develop understanding of your attachment style, learn to distinguish between intuitive concerns and anxiety-driven fears, and create practices that support both individual wellbeing and deeper, more secure connections with others.

My Approach

Unlike traditional CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) focused programmes, I offer a perspective that begins with education about what's actually happening in your mind and body. I will also help you understand the external factors (our relationships and wider social contexts) that may intensify the feelings of anxiety, including the internal patterns that shape your responses. We will also consider a little bit about how your history could be playing a part in how you feel now.

Throughout our sessions, we'll work respectfully in the present moment, emphasising your personal agency and strengths, combining the best insights from multiple therapeutic traditions to create a supportive path forward.

My Experience

Just because I am a therapist, I am not immune to the emotional challenges people face. What helps me navigate these is self-awareness and understanding the bigger picture of mental and emotional wellbeing. I want to share these insights with you.

My most powerful training in anxiety was going through a time of experiencing it myself. I recall GP appointments and referrals to specialists to determine what was wrong and why I had the physical symptoms I did, only to have one specialist mention stress; I actually said, “I can’t be stressed, I am training to be a therapist!”

This was the lightbulb moment for me as I heard myself out loud. This was a few years ago now. I do not believe we cure ourselves from being anxious but we can learn to take the power out of it and work with it. Ironically, when we no longer fear something, it slowly dissipates.

My course explores the 'why' behind our experiences, the 'how' of making changes, and the 'when' of applying new understanding. We'll unpack what's happening and move toward fuller, more satisfying lives. We will also briefly visit the origins of some of your behaviours and emotions by looking at intergenerational patterns, so that we can begin to break cycles if they are unhelpful.

My Approach

With 9 years of core training, ongoing research, and hands on experience, I offer a cost effective, friendly approach to wellbeing. I adapt specific methods for each group, making every course feel personal and relevant.

Since the quality of our relationships impact the quality of our lives, its important to factor this in when trying to make sense of our struggles. I'll offer you fresh ways to think about your life, relationships, and wellbeing—and practical tools to make changes, when you are ready

About the Courses

My courses on anxiety are designed for people wanting to work on specific issues, gain understanding about how it can manifest, or develop greater self-awareness. All sessions are facilitated by me, there is no recording of sessions and all attendees will be required to agree to an ethical working agreement; feeling safe is paramount.

Small Groups, Personal Attention

With just 6 people maximum, you'll get personalised support, meaningful discussions, and experiential learning. There's no pressure to share personal details, but many find that connecting with others in similar situations helps them feel less alone.

What to Expect

Before you book, we'll have a consultation chat so I can learn about you, your hopes for attending, and answer any questions. This ensure your chosen course is right for you. My delivery style is relational and I share knowledge in a conversational style, without pressure or expectation.

Each course is semi-structured, we work toward clear outcomes while also addressing your unique needs. You'll receive resources and a reflection journal to continue your growth after the course ends.

I also urge you to be realistic. Moving through anxiety is an ongoing shift and does not happen overnight, in some cases you might be trying to change lifelong patterns. After the course is complete there will be a responsibility to take forward the insight you have gained. Attending the monthly online meetings will give you an opportunity to ‘run things past the group’, and share resources and learning.

Who are the courses for?

Anyone who wants to learn more about anxiety and the different forms it can take; overthinking, fear of being out of control, people pleasing, avoidance, self esteem, worrying, catastrophising, needing to keep busy, irrational thinking styles, to name a few ways that being anxious can manifest.

Important to Know

The courses are not group therapy, they are an informal, friendly space to explore ‘mental health’ and wellbeing topics. It does not replace individual counselling and is not suitable for addressing unresolved significant trauma.

The courses may not be suitable if you have ongoing and enduring emotional struggles, individual counselling may be more appropriate in this instance.
